This is Jayant Kripalani's debut in poetry and is a look at life, love, and politics, served with a generous dose of his trademark wit and humour.

I had the opportunity to interview the author on the occasion of the launch of his latest book and he blew me away with his charm.

It can be challenging to keep up with his brand of humour, as delivered with a straight face, but isn't that what has endeared him to us all these years on-screen?

It was a refreshing conversation, to say the least, and he even taught me a thing or two about life, as does this book. Try not to read it on face value, though, for the true meaning of his poetry lies between the lines.

The title of this book - Some Mad Poems, Some Sad Poems, Some Bad Poems and a Short Story in Verse - already had me smiling.
Despite my claims about not being a poetry person as well as my pathetic attempts at writing poems (or was it because of them) I could completely relate to the title.
But here's where the title is misleading. There is nothing sad or bad about these poems.

But here's where the title is misleading. There is nothing sad or bad about these poems.
Not being very fond of poetry I had expected to not be able to understand a word. But, again, Mr. Kripalani proved me wrong. One doesn't need to be a poetry person to understand and appreciate this book.
The poems had me chuckling at either their wit or their audacity. Nothing escapes his gaze and his pen spares no one. His poems make one reflect on one's own actions and sometimes, on society and life. They are sometimes outrageously funny and sometimes satirical, but always thought-provoking and introspective. (I am definitely never going to the parlour again to get my nails cut. - To know more, you got to pick this book up)
His trademark humour is evident in his poems too, while tackling subjects of greater depth and sensitivity.
He doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade, and that's where the unabashed honesty in his writing shines.
This one can and should be read by one and all.

The poetry I pick is saved for times when I need a cleanse from life in general.
This book has been waiting or should I say, I have been waiting to read it for a while.

The words are straightforward quite like the man holding the pen. Words on paper detailing the last few years, some hinting at times long past.

The erudite poems bring a smile more often than not but what I loved most was the story in verse that conjures images of a sweet, funny, achy journey of a young love.

Pick this one up to read on a soft rainy day.
